About

Most job boards want you to apply to everything. This site helps you decide what is worth your time.

Is It Worth Applying? is a small, independent site for people who are job hunting and tired of the grind. I built it around three steps: screen, tailor, track.

Screen. Some listings are never filled. Others are written to attract applicants, not to hire one. Before you spend an evening on an application, it helps to check whether the job is real and whether you fit it.

Tailor. A resume that matches the posting gets read. The same resume sent to fifty postings probably doesn’t. I write about doing this by hand and with AI tools, and about where AI makes things worse.

Track. Applications pile up fast. A simple tracker keeps you from losing the thread, double applying, or forgetting a follow up.

Who runs this site?

I’m Matthew, a marketing professional with a decade of experience. AI helped me become obsolete, and now I’m using it to help in my job hunt.

Have I found my dream job yet? No, I haven’t. And that’s ok. It’s only a matter of time.

Coming up with these processes took close to a year. I made Is It Worth Applying? so that other people won’t have to sacrifice the time and deal with the headaches that I did to fail as often as I did. I write about what I do and what I find, both good and bad.

How I work

  • I only recommend tools I have actually used.
  • I don’t invent numbers, success rates, or testimonials.
  • AI is a tool here, not the headline. Some tasks it does well. Others…not so much. I’ll be specific about which.
  • If a post is wrong or out of date, tell me, and I’ll fix it.
